The first Summer School on CSR at ACG!

On September 23-27, ACG hosted and co-organized the first Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Summer School, in collaboration with CSR Hellas and the University of Crete.

This five-day workshop welcomed over 30 participants (high executives, CEOs, etc.) from well-known Greek and multinational companies (APIVITA S.A., Coca Cola, TITAN Group, etc.) who learned about sustainability and corporate responsibility from world-class experts and worked on real-case scenarios, while earning a professional certificate of 10 ECTS credits from the University of Crete.

On day one, participants had the opportunity to learn about sustainability leadership and responsible organizations. Prof. Ioannis Ioannou, Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, London Business School, offered his expertise on how companies can truly integrate sustainability into their organization structure and how they can establish competitive advantages. The first day concluded with a visit to APIVITA S.A., that is housed in the first bioclimatic building in Greece, where participants visited the production unit and had the opportunity to get to know each other and network.

Dr. Alexandros Antonaras, Associate Professor, University of Nicosia, spoke extensively about the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact on day 2, leading the participants through interactive group exercises to explore the linkages between the above.

Mid-week, Dr. Constantine Manasakis, Assistant Professor, University of Crete, guided participants in the notion/idea/practice of sustainable value creation while working on two case studies where participants had to identify material issues for the creation of shared and sustainable value.

On day 4, Dr. Pavlos A. Vlachos, Associate Professor, Alba Graduate Business School, The American College of Greece, covered the topics of business impact, accountability and reporting, based on the most current research findings.

The Summer School on CSR concluded with a full-day visit to LOULIS MILLS. Participants were welcomed by Pierce alumna Mrs. Olga Manou, CSR & Communication Manager, LOULIS MILLS, followed by lecture by Jan Noterdaeme, Co-founder and Senior Advisor for CSR Europe, Member of the teaching team at the Louvain School of Management. Mr. Noterdaeme spoke about collaborative transformation of the value chain and the European Sustainability Strategy 2030.

The workshop was also flavored/paired with an artistic note on days 1 and 2! Two illustrators/sketch artists from Imaginary Rooms, created sustainability themed illustrations and portraits of both participants and lecturers.

The Summer School on CSR was organized by the Center of Excellence for Sustainability and the Office of Public Affairs.
