SOPHIE DASKALAKI is born in Buenos Aires, is married and mother of a girl and a boy. Presently, she is Chief Communications Officer and member of the BoD Mytilineos Group and until May 2014, member of the Board of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV)

As an elected City Counselor from 2001-2010 , she has served the Municipality of Athens as President of, the Municipal Radio “Athina 984” , “Technopolis”, the “Cultural Organization of Athens” and Deputy  Mayor in International Affairs She is a founding member of the Friends of Children with cancer, "ELPIDA" and the Network "International Transparency-Hellas".

Open minded, global, friendly

Q.: What is one of your favorite DEREE memories?

That Economics was introduced to me as “queen of social sciences”!

Q.: What do you miss most from your days at DEREE?

The rapidity of new ideas coming in every day!

Q.: Where was your favorite spot on campus?

The cafeteria and the library.

Q.: Who was your favorite professor and why?

Psychologist Mrs. Koromila .Economists Mr. Fakiolas & Mr. Kefalas for their inspiring views.

Q.: Have you kept in touch with any of your classmates?

Yes. Especially with those coming from Pierce, as we were together 10 years in all!

Q.: How did DEREE help prepare you for your professional life?

Giving International horizons, so necessary in the dark years 1970-1974.

Q.: What's the greatest piece of advice you've ever received?

Be yourself
