Lecture Description
The last decades, studies confirm that the etiology of different medical conditions entails significant psychological components. Various psychotherapeutic approaches attempt to detect, decipher, and alleviate the attributes that interfere in the emergence of psychosomatic diseases. In this colloquium, two well-established and effective approaches, psychoanalysis and phenomenological analysis, will explore the major nuances and traits of personality that are found to contribute in the appearance of medical diseases. Furthermore, Dr. Savvopoulos and Dr. Gemenetzis will present the basic principles of psychotherapy of psychosomatic patients, according to the psychoanalytic and phenomenological approach respectively.
Part A (90 min): Presentation of the main tenets of each approach by the guest lecturers and discussion with the audience

Part B (90 min): Case presentation (Maria Korre), and commentaries by the lecturers.

Dr. Savvas Savvopoulos is a psychiatrist and training psychoanalyst. He has received his doctorate from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, where he has worked for 11 years. He is a full member of the Hellenic Psychoanalytical Society, and the International Psychoanalytic Association. He is a member of the Institute of Psychosomatics of Paris Pierre Marty, founding member and former president of the Greek Psychosomatic Society. He is the author of the book “Seven Fairytales of Life: is the ailment an untranslated message?”, focusing on the treatment of oncological patients.
Dr. Konstantin Gemenetzis studied Medicine in Thessaloniki, Psychology and Philosophy in Tübingen. He received his psychiatric and psychoanalytic training (Daseinsanalyse) in Zūrich. He was the vice Director at Dr. Binswanger Sanatorium Bellevue. He is a founding member of the Greek Daseinsanalytic Society, and President of the International Federation of Daseinsanalytic Societies, and author of relevant books and articles in his website. Finally, he is practicing psychotherapist and training analyst online and offline (Thessaloniki).
Maria Korre, M.Sc.
Μaria Korre is a Psychologist and received her M.Sc. in Health Psychology from the University of Surrey in London, UK. She is a Family Therapist and Training Daseinsanalyst.. She is currently holding her private practice and teaches graduate courses in the American College of Greece.
She is trained as a family therapist by the Family Therapy in the Athenian Institute of Anthropos, and is also trained in (Daseinsanalysis). M. Korre has worked as a psychologist in the Center for Drug Addicts ( Κ.Ε.Θ.Ε.Α. 1991 – 1999) and was the Director of the Center for Information and Research on Addiction of the Municipality of Heraklion Attica until 2005. She consulted for ten years and was a member of the Adolescent Health Unit of Aglaia Kyriakou Hospital working primarily with families of adolescents diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa. M. Korre is currently acting as a member of the training committee of The Hellenic Society for Existential Analysis (Daseinsanalysis).She has been working as a private practitioner since 2004.
Dr. Nikolaos Takis
Dr. Nikolaos Takis earned his PhD in clinical psychology from the National University of Athens. He worked for 13 years in the Detoxification Unit (18 ANO) of the Psychiatric Hospital of Attica. Since 2010 he is an assistant professor and teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in his specialty in the American College of Greece. Since 2015 he is the Director of the ACG Counseling Center. Dr Takis is also a certified practitioner in Psychodrama and Transference Focused Psychotherapy. He is a member of the Hellenic and the French Association of Group psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, and a candidate psychoanalyst of the Hellenic Psychoanalytical Society. He is the former President of FEPTO (Federation of European Psychodrama Training Organizations).
