Following our hugely popular English for Tourism course, Deree – The American College of Greece is offering a brand new highly specialized course designed to train hotel and catering professionals and meet their English language day-to-day needs.
English for Hospitality is a targeted English language and skills course for professionals currently working in hospitality as well as hospitality students in further and higher education. The course will help you consolidate your English language skills and equip you with the specialized language and skills you need to communicate effectively within the industry, where English is essential. The core language skills are developed through a wide range of communicative tasks which give you the opportunity to build confidence and improve fluency.

Why learn English for Hospitality?
Hospitality is one of the world’s more reliable industries for steady growth and expansion.
An estimated 1.8 billion tourists are expected to be on the move by 2030 (UN World Tourism Organization). As a result, there is an ever-growing demand for highly skilled front-line hospitality employees that can communicate effectively in English.
To fully benefit from the course, it is recommended that you are an independent user of English and are approximately at B1+ level in the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).
English for Hospitality is a practical course which will allow you to improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, while also improving your hospitality vocabulary and grammar. You will learn the English you need to do the job, practice functional language in real work situations and enrich your hotel and catering vocabulary. A highly interactive adult methodology is used to maximize performance: each session includes role plays, pair-work and individual tasks.
All materials are provided; supplementary self-access materials will be uploaded on Blackboard (Learning Management System).
By the end of the course, you’ll be better able to use straightforward, professional language in order to:
- speak politely to guests in English
- understand guest requests and serve them accordingly
- deal with incoming calls
- answer question about hotel facilities and services
- deal with booking enquiries and take reservations
- write and respond to emails
- welcome guests and make them feel comfortable
- deal with check-in problems
- serve drinks and provide food service
- give information on visitor attractions and local transport
- deal with complaints, mistakes and problems
- handle payments
- service a room
- perform in a job interview
At the end of the course, you will be better able to communicate more fluently and with more confidence with foreign colleagues and clients in a wide range of real – world professional contexts.
Certificate of Participation
Trainees will need to attend 75% of the course (6 face-to-face sessions) and complete 6 out of 8 (online) tasks to be awarded the Certificate of Participation.
The course will run for 8 weeks and will consist of a 3-hour session per week (24 contact hours in total).
Regular single participant fee: €250
A 10% discount (€225 per participant) is available for members of the ACG community, Professional Education past participants, companies who register two or more employees and the unemployed.
Meet our Trainer
Lia Kalianos, DELTA MA CertIBET
Lia is a bilingual DELTA-qualified Business English Trainer in the School of Graduate and Professional Education at Deree – The American College of Greece. She has valuable experience of designing and facilitating open group and in-company Business English and English for Specific Purposes Training courses, both face-to-face and blended. Lia also teaches English for Academic Purposes at Deree – The American College of Greece.
Lia has a diploma in teaching English to adults (Cambridge DELTA) and is certified in International Business English Training (Trinity College London) as well as Intercultural Training (International House London). She is currently joint Coordinator of the TESOL Greece Adult Learner Special Interest Group.
Lia has earned BA(Hons) and MA degrees from University College London (UCL), The University of London.
