Founding and Organizational Profile

  • Founded in 1875 in Smyrna (Izmir), Asia Minor (Turkey) as a school for girls; relocated to Athens in 1923
  • Independent, non-profit, nonsectarian, co-educational
  • Governed by a voluntary board of trustees – currently twenty-four members. The board holds overall stewardship responsibility for the College, delegating primary operating authority to the president of the College (an ex officio, non-voting member of the board), whom the board selects and regularly evaluates.
