Lecture Description
In this Master Class, the academic, psychological, and social profile of students with Learning Differences (L.D.) will be presented. Evidence from the latest scientific research and clinical examples will be provided to describe the academic difficulties, challenges as well as the unique and special abilities of children with L.D. The vicious academic and psychological cycle these children experience and ways to break it will be discussed. The therapeutic triangle andways to enhance the academic abilities and support the psychological well-being of students with L.D. will be elaborated. The role of the parents, teachers, and counselors in children’s lives, development, and well-being will be emphasized.
Gina Thanopoulou
Gina G. Thanopoulou,is a Counseling, Psycho-Educational Psychologist. Her fields of expertise are in the areas of Developmental Psychology, Risk & Prevention Psychology, Female Psychology from Harvard University, Graduate School of Education (HGSE) (1994), and Emerson College (1992) in Counseling Psychology & Theater education. Since she came back from the States, in 1995, she maintains her Private Practiceas a Counseling / Educational Psychologist to Children, Adolescents, Adults, Parents, Families, and Couples. Ms. Thanopoulou worked for 16 years (1999 – 2015) as the Director of the Center for Counseling & Learning Services of the International School of Athens, (ISA). Previously, she worked for 3 years (1995-1998) as a Counseling Psychologist/ Coordinator of the Counseling Center of Pierce – The American College of Greece. Additionally, Ms. Thanopoulou is a Guest Lecturer at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, and a Guest Lecturer at various cultural and educational institutions in Greece. She is a full member of the European, British and Greek Counseling Associations, a “distinguished” member of the Executive Board of the Greek Counseling Association, a member of the American Psychology Association, and the American Counseling Association (ACA).
