Istanbul Graphic Design Week 2016: Deree Student Awarded

The new Graphic Design program of the Frances Rich School of Fine and Performing Arts just launched in Fall 2015, is already distinguishing itself.

Virginia Christakou who is studying Graphic Design as a minor at Deree, recently participated in the Poster Design Competition of the 20th Istanbul Graphic Design Week (Grafist 20). Her poster was granted the encouragement award and was selected for the month-long exhibition, along with the poster designed by Sami Irabi, a first year student of the Graphic Design Major.

As we crossed the frontiers…” is an International Poster Design Exhibition and Competition held as part of Grafist 20. The Graphic Design Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University invited visual communication students from all over the world to come up with creative ideas on one of the biggest problems the world is currently facing, the refugee crisis.

From the 440 participants, one received a first prize award and five were granted the encouragement award for posters, one of them being the creation of our very own Virginia. The selected 80 top posters, including the works of Virginia and Sami, will be showcased at the official exhibition in MSFAU Osman Hamdi Bey Hall, while they will also be published in the Grafist 20 catalogue.
