“Green” Commencement: ACG takes the lead!

For the first time in ACG history, the Deree Commencement 2019 followed the ACG Sustainable Events Guidelines established in 2018, in an effort to make the ceremony as “green” and sustainable as possible.

In this context, we reduced the amount of hardcopy invitations, encouraged recycling best practices by urging our guests to use the recycling bins available on campus, minimized waste during the post-commencement reception, and made this the first 100% smoke-free Commencement as all types of smoking were prohibited on campus.

In parallel, we launched the “ACG Sustainability Graduation Pledge”. This pledge highlights the commitment of our new graduates to use the knowledge, values, and experiences acquired while studying at The American College of Greece (ACG), acting as engaged and responsible citizens and professionals, in order to help create a sustainable world.

Graduates had the opportunity to sign the pledge during this year’s distribution of gowns as well as the commencement rehearsal, receiving a green ribbon to wear on their gown during the ceremony, signifying that they have taken the pledge!
