At a time when the need for mental health services is on the rise, the Municipality of Athens and The American College of Greece have taken the initiative to offer free counseling services to Athens citizens. In accordance with the “Non ministrari, sed ministrare” (to serve and not to be served) spirit of the College, the Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Education, Dr. Areti Krepapa, has signed an agreement with the Mayor of Athens, Dr. George Kaminis, for the provision of mental health counseling by graduate students of the MS in Counseling Psychology and Psychotherapy program, under the direct supervision of Deree psychology faculty. The services will be provided at Kalfopouleio Health Center (1ο Δημοτικό Ιατρείο – Καλφοπούλειο Υγειονομικό Κέντρο).
The collaboration will provide private counseling and group therapy for adults, as well as counseling for couples and families. According to Ms. Maria Stratigaki, Deputy Mayor for Social Solidarity and Welfare, priority will be given to the unemployed and uninsured, as well as to low-income residents of the city, aged 18-60 years.
