Blood drive, in collaboration with NKUA and AUEB in support of NIMTS public hospital
In the midst of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and in the context of the ACG Community Service Days – Spring 2021, a 2-day blood drive was organized at Deree campus, on March 30-31, 2021. This initiative fell within the framework of the promotion of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals and in particular Goal 3, which promotes health and well-being as well as Goal 4, which aims at the cultivation of sensitized and responsible citizens through access to quality education.
The American College of Greece organized the fourth consecutive blood drive since the beginning of the pandemic, in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), inviting community members and friends, to support NIMTS public hospital.
All precautionary measures, as indicated for the Covid-19 pandemic and directed by the National Public Health Organization (EODY), were taken to safeguard the health and safety of the blood donors, including online registration for distancing and avoidance of overcrowding.
The blood drive was co-organized by the ACG Center of Excellence for Sustainability – Office of Public Affairs and the Greek universities NKUA and AUEB and was supported by ACG Health & Wellness Center, Office of Student Affairs, Deree Student Association (DSA), and the Research Laboratory on Socio-Economic and Environmental Sustainability – AUEB.
The registrations on the online platform were fully booked and around eighty donors were welcomed on campus. We are truly grateful that the community recognized that “we are all somebody’s blood type” and engaged in this small act of giving.
