Community Service Days – Fall 2020

Blood drive, a joint effort in support of ACG Blood Bank and G. Gennimatas, Evaggelismos and Ag. Savvas Hospitals

In the midst of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and in the context of the ACG Community Service Days – Fall 2020, a 3-day blood drive was organized at Deree campus, on December 1- 3, 2020.

One hundred and forty five ACG community members as well as ACG business partners and friends actively engaged in this collaborative effort and one hundred and twenty two blood units were collected for the ACG Blood Bank and our nation’s hospitals, proving that social distancing does not mean social disengagement.

All precautionary measures, as indicated for the Covid-19 pandemic and directed by the National Public Health Organization (EODY), were taken to safeguard the health and safety of the blood donors, including online registration for distancing and avoidance of overcrowding.

The blood drive was co-organized by the ACG Health & Wellness Center, the Office of Public Affairs and the Office of Student Affairs and was supported by the Deree Health and Social Awareness Club, the Deree Student Association (D.S.A.) and the S.E.R.F.(Student Emergency Response Force). Pierce, The Office of Advancement and Athletics strongly contributed to the community outreach!

This event honored the International Volunteer Day, adopted by the United Nations and celebrated on December 5, 2020, acknowledging all loving and passionate volunteers who share the message “Together We Can”.

ACG’s blood drive motto “Heroes come in all types” reminds us that we are all somebody’s blood type and this small act of giving can actually save a life!
