The School of Business at DEREE has organized 6 events with leading figures from academia and the professional world of business. Each one of the events focuses on a different sector of industry, presenting the challenges and opportunities from different perspective. The events, which are open to the public, will give DEREE’s current and prospective students the opportunity to learn more about each of the sectors of business, as well as inform them about the new undergraduate programs available at DEREE, that stem from the study of the respective fields.
Shipping Management
On Tuesday, November 3, 17:30 – 20:30 the first event will take place, focusing on Shipping Management, a new independent academic program which this year was introduced to the list of undergraduate programs offered at DEREE. After a brief presentation of the new program, a panel discussion will follow, featuring distinguished professionals from the given fields, who will talk about a career in Shipping Management, a particularly dynamic sector in Greece, and the professional opportunities it can offer. The panel will host, among others, George Logothetis, CFO of George Moundreas & Co., Panos Zachariades, Technical Fleet Director of Atlantic Bulk Carriers, and Captain Ioannis Kechagias, CEO of White Sea Navigation SA. The discussion will be moderated by Ilias Bissias.
Lectures by Dr. Henry Thompson
On Monday, November 9, 14:00 – 16:00, the academic department of International Business of DEREE, will host Dr. Henry Thompson, profession of Economics at Auburn University, US, who will deliver two consecutive lectures, on ‘Tourism Economics in Greece,’ and on ‘The Physical Production Function of the US Economy,’ focusing on US Economy after 1951. Following the lectures, an open discussion will take place on the development of both nations’ economies.
Tourism & Hospitality Management
On Wednesday, November 11, 17:00 – 20:00, a mini-conference on tourism will be held, organized by the International Tourism & Hospitality Department. The event, titled ‘Tourism Success – Everybody's Business: Perspectives on Tourism and Hospitality Management, Planning and Development,’ will foster a dialogue between professionals on implementation of new strategies and the employment of new media practices toward development in the field of hospitality management. The guest speakers will include the President of the Hellenic Hotelier Confederation (POX), Giannis Retsos.
Healthcare Management
On Monday, November 16, 17:30 – 20:30, the baton is passed to another crucial business sector of particular importance to our country, that of Healthcare Management. At the event, DEREE’s new undergraduate program, Healthcare Management, will be presented. The presentation’s keynote speaker is Dr. Brenda Wolf, President and CEO of La Rabida Children’s Hospital, Chicago, US. Dr. Wolf will address the audience through a Skype presentation, and an open discussion will follow between the panel’s academic and professional experts and the public.
Logistics & Supply Chain Management
On Wednesday, November 18, 17:30 – 20:30, one more new academic undergraduate program at DEREE will be presented, Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Professors and business professionals will discuss the strategic position of Greece on the global map of commerce, and the potential for development that it entails for the industry of transport and logistics. The guest speakers will also discuss professional and business opportunities and challenges of the industry. The speakers will include Peggy Velliotou, Partner, Advisory, KPMG Advisors SA; Panagiotis Georgakopoulos, Engagement Manager, McKenzie & Co.; and Dimitris Papanikolaou, Supply Chain Director GR&CY, Coca Cola.
Finance
Lastly, on Thursday, November 19, 17:30 – 20:30, the series of events organized by DEREE’s School of Business will be concluded with an event focusing on Finance, a business sector which, as of this year, is taught at DEREE with the introduction of the highly specialized and demanding undergraduate program, BSc Finance.
The events of DEREE’s School of Business provide students with the opportunity to learn about the modern market’s tendencies, and to understand how businesses operate in Greece today, all through the eyes of prominent business figures.
