On Saturday, November 16, 2019 the Deree volunteer divers’ team picked up a hefty amount of garbage from the bottom of the sea at the coast of Aghia Marina.
The volunteer divers, under the supervision and direction of the Office of Athletics Outdoor Recreation program, and in cooperation with the Saronikos municipality, were supported by a local diving school. The volunteers always look forward to this volunteer initiative, as it combines the enjoyment of the dive with the satisfaction of the delivery of a cleaner coast every time!
“This time, although mid-November, we were lucky to enjoy a summertime-like day. But, it has not always been that way. We have dived in cold, in rain, in rough sea and we have always managed to represent our College in the best way”, Christos Koutras, Director of Recreation and Intramural Programs, says.
The Office of Athletics – Outdoor Recreation’s social responsibility actions range from hiking the high mountains, when we always return from the hikes with bags full of trash, to diving to the bottom of the seal, when we remove everything that does not belong to the sea world.
If you are a certified diver, join the Deree scuba diving team, explore the depths, and be another environmental hero!
