ACG Joins CLIMPACT

ACG, under the efforts of the Center of Excellence in Sustainability and faculty members of the Department of Science and Mathematics, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has joined the CLIMPACT network as Affiliated Member. The scientific responsible for ACG in CLIMPACT is Dr. Stella Apostolaki, Executive Director of the Center of Excellence in Sustainability.

CLIMPACT is the flagship national initiative on climate change responsible for the integration, harmonization, and optimization of existing climate services, early warning systems and measurements from relevant national infrastructures in Greece. In more detail, it moves around 3 Pillars:

PILLAR 1: Climatic parameters and estimates from paleoclimate to the recent past

PILLAR 2: Climate change: Impact – Adaptation – Response – Economic Valuation

PILLAR 3: Hazard and risk assessment from natural disasters – Αdaptation – Response – Economic Valuation

The ACG will contribute to all pillars and support the network’s research and dissemination efforts.

The CLIMPACT network, which is coordinated by the National Observatory of Athens, started operating in October 2019 and it consists of eleven emblematic, national scientific bodies: the Academy of Athens, the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Center for Marine Research, the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos,” the Research Center ‘ATHENA’, the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Crete, the Technical University of Crete, the National Center for Social Research and the National Observatory of Athens, as well as 12 affiliated members.
