ACG again on the Sustainability Campus Index and ‘Cool Schools’ list for its sustainability efforts!

The Office of Public Affairs is happy to announce that The American College of Greece (ACG) is featured as a top performer in AASHE’s Sustainable Campus Index (SCI) and ranked in SIERRA Magazine’s ‘Cool Schools’ list for 2019.

ACG has been, once again, recognized as a top performer in the 2019 Sustainable Campus Index, achieving the top spot in the area of Wellbeing & Work, tying for third place in the area of Grounds, and ranking fifth in Food & Dining among associate/baccalaureate/master’s/doctoral institutions. A publication from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the Sustainable Campus Index recognizes top-performing sustainable colleges and universities overall and in 17 impact areas, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS).

“We are very proud to have been recognized as a top performer in the 2019 Sustainable Campus Index for the fourth consecutive year! As a leading educational institution, the American College of Greece recognizes the environmental, economic, and social benefits of resource efficiency and commits to educate, inspire and empower its students, as well as faculty, staff, parents, alumni, trustees and business partners, to develop a sustainability culture and to collaborate with the local community in promoting sustainability best practices.”, says the ACG Sustainability Manager, Ms. Rania Assariotaki.

“We are happy to recognize The American College of Greece for its leadership in advancing sustainability,” said AASHE’s Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser. “I’m grateful for the work being done by this institution to help move society toward a more equitable and sustainable future.”

ACG was also included in SIERRA Magazine’s ‘Cool Schools’ list for the second year in a row! The ‘Cool Schools’ list, also known as the ‘greenest’ Colleges list, features 282 academic institutions who are examined for their sustainability best practices based on their STARS reports. ACG ranked 129th, leaving behind institutions like Yale and Boston University, scoring exceptionally well in the ‘Food Ranking’ category, where we placed fourth out of all 282 institutions! The list also includes other prestigious colleges and universities, such as Loyola, Tufts University, etc.

For all its relevant activity, ACG has been awarded the STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System) Silver Rating, in recognition of its sustainability best practices. ACG is the only academic institution in Greece to have received a distinction by the US AASHE – an internationally acclaimed association. For more detailed information, please click here.
