Deree College Athletic Club pita cutting, with special guest Olympian Pyrros Dimas, was a great success!

On January 28, young athletes and their families gathered for the 2023 Deree College Athletic Club (DCAC) pita-cutting ceremony. There was a huge turnout, and the event was honored by the presence of ACG President David G. Horner and members of the College administration.

Athletes from all sports of the Deree Sports Academy – swimming, tennis, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and track & field – were honored for their accomplishments and participation during the previous year. A special tribute was given to multiple Olympic gold medalist, Pyrros Dimas, for his tremendous contribution and dedication to Sports. He gave a short speech offering valuable advice to our young athletes.

After the historic disruption and cancellation of public events for the past two years of the pandemic, we once again had the opportunity to celebrate the successes of our young athletes! The prolonged absence from sports activities was certainly unpleasant for everyone and, in particular, our students, but we were pleased to see that the athletes came back stronger and had great success, winning the 2021 Age Groups Swimming National championship and taking 2nd place (with a small difference) in 2022!

The future looks bright with the establishment of the Pierce Kindergarten and Elementary School on the East Campus in Spata. The DCAC will have the opportunity to take advantage of the excellent sports facilities on our new campus!

Apart from the competitive awards, we are very proud that our athletes have distinguished themselves academically. The purpose of the DCAC is our commitment to our athletes to provide them with a high level of sports education, aiming to build character and unlock their full potential!

The DCAC would like to thank:

  • ACG administration for their continuous support
  • Parents who entrust us with their children
  • Coaches and staff of the DCAC and Office of Athletics for their commitment and dedication
  • Aris Fotopoulos, Deree Griffins mascot and Deree Cheer team coach, Ms. Lucy Konstantinidou, who made the event extra special with their presence

Exclusive raffle prizes were awarded to the lucky winning athletes. We would like to thank iStorm for donating the main prize (an iPhone-14) and for their continuous support!

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and successful New Year!
