World Wide Teach-in Climate and Justice

Introducing Biodiversity, Climate Change and Justice to College Students: Using the Deree-ACG Forest as a Living Laboratory

When: Wednesday, March 22, 14:30 – 15:20

Where: 6th level Auditorium, Deree – The American College of Greece

Organized by: The Biomedical Sciences Program and the Environmental Studies Program, Department of Science and Mathematics, Deree-ACG

 

About the event:

Deree students will introduce work done on three Learning Objects by using the Deree-ACG forest as a living laboratory. This event is part of the World-Wide Teach-in Climate and Justice where Deree-ACG is one of the hosts.

Students will also present in more detail their work during the Deree Student Symposium and World Environment Day, 2023.

1st Learning Object: Biodiversity basics and biodiversity loss related to the 5 Kingdoms of life: Bacteria (Monera), Protista, Fungi, Plants, and Animals. Students will try to connect the activities with climate change impact

2nd Learning Object: Introduction to concepts of Climate Change/Crisis, interlinkages between Biodiversity and Climate Change, and Justice to college students with minimal or no background on the topics

3rd Learning Object: Assessment of the previous LOs (closing the loop), preparation of reports, presentations, conference posters, apps on essential findings, analysis, conclusions, and future recommendations.

The language of the in-person event is English.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Participation or Attendance.
