Welcome to ‘Critical Creativity,’ the 2nd on-campus Graphic Design Exhibition of the Graphic Design Department at Frances Rich School of Fine and Performing Arts at Deree College’s Arts Gallery, Arts Center. This event commenced on March 21st and will continue to showcase innovative design prowess until April 3rd.
Centered around the theme of critical creativity, this exhibition highlights the dynamic fusion of questioning established norms with imaginative problem-solving within the realm of graphic design. More than just a display of aesthetic prowess, ‘Critical Creativity’ challenges perceptions, encourages out-of-the-box thinking and inspires change through over 100 diverse design works.
The exhibition features a curated selection of 15 projects from Levels 4, 5, and 6, spanning Fall 2023 and Spring 2024. These projects delve into a spectrum of design applications, including posters, books, T-shirts, forms, leaflets, websites, animations, packaging, and 3-D mock-ups. Each project tackles real-world issues, from sustainability to gender equality, reflecting the department’s commitment to addressing pressing global challenges.
Notable among the projects are initiatives aimed at revisiting the concept of ‘sustainable’ products (paper straws), tackling food waste, enhancing user-friendliness in everyday forms, recreating medical pictograms for increased comprehensibility, empowering women through the presentation of exceptional female figures, research on typographic classification, designing the branding of ACG’s 150 years and much more. Moreover, the exhibition proudly showcases projects aligned with several of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: #2 Zero Hunger, #3 Good Health and Well-being, #5 Gender Equality, and #12 Responsible Consumption and Production. Reflective practitioners can make a difference in the world!
Attendees are invited to immerse themselves in this celebration of innovation, exploration, and societal impact. Join us on a journey into the depths of critical creativity and witness firsthand the power of graphic design to shape a better future for all.
