Dr. Gatopoulos has been a part-time member of the Department of Economics since 2017. His research interests touch upon international macroeconomics, finance and economic policy-making. He has presented work in peer-reviewed international conferences and published in the Journal of International Money and Finance. During 2010-2017, he worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund’s office in Greece. In the context of three IMF programs, he conducted applied economic analysis on a broad set of issues related to the Greek crisis, including on the external and financial sectors and on structural reforms. As part of collective work on Greece, he contributed to eleven IMF country report publications, nine program reviews, while provided technical assistance on the capital controls’ regime. Since 2017, he has been working at the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE), as a head of the International Macroeconomics and Finance Unit.
