The Gerondelis Foundation

The American College of Greece has been awarded a grant of $50,000 by the Gerondelis Foundation to support study abroad scholarships for low-income students from Essex County, Massachusetts.

“I cannot tell you how thrilled we are to help The American College of Greece with this program,” wrote Gregory C. Demakis, President of the foundation in the award letter. “This grant reflects the values and mission of the Gerondelis Foundation, namely, to help educational institutions, to give support to the less fortunate, and to help people in the local community.”

The number of Americans studying abroad has tripled over the last two decades, as students increasingly see the academic, social, and professional advantages of overseas experiences, but for both cultural and financial reasons, it’s an opportunity low-income college students are less likely to get. This project will eliminate the financial barriers, so seven deserving students can benefit from a transformational educational experience in Greece.

ACG is partnering with North Shore Community College to implement this grant, and scholarship recipients are slated to study at ACG in Summer Session II of 2017.

We look forward to welcoming our new study abroad students on campus!
