About the exhibition
Zero for Conduct: Notes on Critical Pedagogies is conceived as a research-based curatorial project that focuses on artists who explore alternative educational frameworks and forms of knowledge, thereby tracing critical pedagogical approaches that question how knowledge is produced, mediated, and transmitted. The exhibition takes its title from the seminal film Zéro de Conduite (1933) by French director Jean Vigo, which serves as a point of reference for questioning the disciplinary structures of education. Within this framework, education is approached not as a neutral mechanism of knowledge transmission, but as a dynamic system that shapes subjectivities, behaviors, and social relations.
The exhibition places particular emphasis on the history of education in Greece during the 20th century, highlighting the tension between traditional modes of instruction and reformist pedagogical practices. Special attention is given to the role of language as a site of ideological conflict, where issues of identity, power, and politics are both constructed and contested. From the ideological and political debates surrounding the “language question” in early 20th-century Greece to artistic initiatives exploring new forms of participation in art and learning during the 1960s and the following decades, the exhibition examines education as a field of cultural, social, and ideological formation.
Through works that experiment with collective forms of learning, embodied knowledge, and participatory processes, Zero for Conduct brings together historical and contemporary artistic initiatives that approach education as a creative, critical, and potentially emancipatory process. Comprising existing works and new commissions, the exhibition is conceived as a space for critical reflection, where art becomes a means of questioning the conditions of the learning process. In this context, education emerges as a dynamic practice tied to the very right to knowledge—particularly at a moment when this right is once again being called into question.

In this special event on the occasion of the World Ocean Day celebration, Dr. Velaoras, a physical oceanographer of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), Institute of Oceanography, will explore how the global climate crisis is reshaping ocean systems, affecting marine biodiversity, coastal communities, weather patterns, and the delicate balance of the Mediterranean ecosystem.
Through scientific insight and real-world observations, the presentation will highlight the current state of the Mediterranean Sea, the impacts already being recorded, and the major environmental challenges expected in the coming decades. The discussion will also emphasize the importance of research, innovation, and collective action in protecting one of the world’s most unique and vulnerable marine regions for future generations.

About the event
Much of modern educational practice has developed as an adaption to a central challenge: authentic learning by doing and individualized coaching are extraordinarily resource intensive. Large classes, standardized instruction, and scalable delivery models often emerged not because they represent ideal learning conditions, but because they were practical responses to limitations of time, staffing, and cost.
Yet many of the strongest educational traditions, particularly in the arts, continue to emphasize apprenticeship, studio practice, critique, rehearsal, feedback, and one-on-one mentoring as essential elements of meaningful learning. Drawing on John Dewey’s pragmatic philosophy, this session explores how artificial intelligence (AI) may help (and perhaps hinder) educators providing experiential and inquiry-based learning.
Through examples from higher education, learning design, and dance education, we will examine how AI can support learning by doing without reducing education to automation. Instead, AI can function as a practical design instrument that expands opportunities for coaching, experimentation, reflection, and active learning in ways that were previously difficult to scale. Attendees will be invited to analyze and discuss approaches that integrate AI while preserving the relational and creative dimensions of teaching and learning. We plan to share this framework for the first half of the session and then use the rest of our time together for Q&A and open, informal discussion with participants.
