At The American College of Greece (ACG), sustainability isn’t just an idea—it’s a core principle embraced by our community. Our Sustainability Face of the Month series highlights ACG members who embody sustainable living and inspire change through their actions and involvement in ACG-led activities on and off campus.
Meet June’s Sustainability Face: Barbara Margarita Radmann
Barbara Margarita Radmann is the Student Life Administrator at the Office of Student Affairs and a Deree graduate with a BSc in International Business, class of 2021. Through her role, she continues to make meaningful contributions to the ACG community through her long-standing commitment to sustainability and service-based learning.
A former ACG Sustainability Leader and part of the College’s first cohort of UN Millennium Fellows, a program spearheaded by the UN Academic Impact, she revealed her commitment to sustainability and purposeful engagement from her early student days at Deree. A prime example of that was her active role in organizing the “UN SDGs Symposium: Exploring the DiverCity of Athens” in November 2020, and she was always a passionate advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
She also holds an MSc in Sustainability Science, Policy, and Society from Maastricht University.
Today, Barbara brings the same spirit to her role at ACG, integrating sustainability into her work with students through the Office of Student Affairs.
“At the heart of my role at ACG is a strong commitment to sustainability, shaped by my academic background,” she shares. “In planning student initiatives at Deree, I consistently prioritize sustainable practices, reusing decorations and sourcing materials from ethical, eco-conscious suppliers.”
One of the most impactful programs she is involved in is the Meaningful Engagement Trip, a service-learning opportunity that she both participated in as a student and now helps facilitate!
How does sustainability tie in to this program?
In the recent trip to Litochoro, students joined trail clean-ups and held discussions with local leaders and the NGO Ecogenia, gaining firsthand insights into rural sustainable development.
“I see service learning as a powerful tool for student development and real-world engagement with sustainability,” Barbara says.
Barbara’s efforts and commitment to sustainability extend beyond campus walls.
She is currently co-authoring a publication through NTUA and the Metsovion Interdisciplinary Research Center on environmental civic service and sustainable ecotourism in remote Greek regions.
Because ACG Cares!
