Sustainability Face of the Month: Meet Parallel Studies Student Iasonas Leontarakis!

At The American College of Greece (ACG), sustainability isn’t just an idea—it’s a core principle embraced by our community. Our Sustainability Face of the Month series highlights ACG members who embody sustainable living and inspire change through their actions and involvement in ACG-led activities on and off campus.

Meet February’s Sustainability Face: Iasonas Leontarakis

Iasonas, 21, a Parallel Studies student at Deree and Panteion University, has been a lifelong volunteer, sustainability advocate, and very active member of our community since the Fall Semester 2024.

He is currently pursuing a minor in Information Technology at Deree while majoring in Economic and Regional Development at Panteion University. Beyond academics, he enjoys reading books and manga, working out, and playing video games.

Dedicated to making a positive impact both on and off campus, Iasonas has been involved in various initiatives aimed at supporting the environment and communities in need from a young age. Over the years, he has contributed to several initiatives, from animal shelters and adoption centers, to donating food, clothes and toys to those in need. Additionally, he has participated in the European Union’s Regina-MSP (Marine Spatial Planning) program, furthering his understanding of environmental conservation.

At Deree, Iasonas has found a meaningful way to contribute through the Boroume at the Farmers’ Market initiative. He helps recover food that would otherwise go to waste at this weekly volunteer activity, supporting local Greek organizations that offer a helping hand to those in need.

“This experience has not only allowed me to grow personally but also to connect with like-minded individuals from Greece and beyond who share my passion for sustainability,” says Iasonas.

A Message to Fellow Students from Iasonas

For those considering getting involved in sustainability-related activities at ACG, he has one piece of advice: “If you’re considering getting involved in similar initiatives but are unsure, I highly recommend taking the leap—it’s both a rewarding and fulfilling experience!”

At ACG, we celebrate students like Iasonas who dedicate their time and energy, even between classes, to making a difference. Their actions serve as an inspiration to others, reinforcing the longstanding community spirit we cultivate at The American College of Greece.

Because ACG Cares!
