Sustainability Face of the Month: Meet ACG Sustainability Leader Pinelopi Tsiopou!

At The American College of Greece (ACG), sustainability isn’t just an idea—it’s a core principle embraced by our community. In our Sustainability Face of the Month series, we spotlight ACG members who embody sustainable living and inspire change through their actions.

Meet January’s Sustainability Face: Pinelopi Tsiopou

Pinelopi, a Deree graduate student, is a true advocate for the 3 R’s – reduce, reuse, recycle!

Through both small, meaningful habits like always carrying a reusable cup and impactful community initiatives, she embodies sustainability in her daily life and leadership roles.

Pinelopi’s commitment to sustainability began during her undergraduate years at UC Davis. There, she interned with the campus’ Student Pantry and Farm, helping glean unharvested or imperfect produce. This initiative minimized food waste by redistributing food to campus programs and local organizations, while also supporting food-insecure students and Davis locals.

This effort resonates deeply with ACG’s ongoing Farmers’ Market with Boroume initiative, which also combats food waste and food loss while addressing malnutrition in the local community.

In her role as the President of the Deree Graduate Student Association (GSA), she recently led a heartwarming Christmas Toy Drive, where students donated gently used toys. These pre-loved items were given a second life and brought joy to children in need.

“Throughout my college years, I’ve embraced sustainability by reducing waste with reusable items and organizing initiatives like the Toy Drive. My motto is ‘Reuse, reduce, recycle!” shares Pinelopi.

She is a shining example of putting theory into practice and leading a sustainable life, inspiring us all to lead a greener, more thoughtful life at home and on campus.

Because ACG Cares!
