From February to April 2025, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the Office of Sustainability—Public Affairs organized a three-month food drive in collaboration with Emfasis Non-Profit to support individuals facing food insecurity.
The ACG Community rallied behind this meaningful cause through both in-kind and cash donations. Financial contributions were converted into 10 euros AB Vassilopoulos vouchers, helping families purchase essential groceries.
“Food insecurity is something that should not exist, and it’s something I think about every day. Through the GSA, we had the opportunity to turn that concern into action by creating an initiative that helps fight hunger in our community. It truly takes a village to meet these needs, and this food drive showed how powerful we can be when we come together with a purpose”, shares Pinelopi Tsiopou, President of the GSA, graduate student in MA in Strategic Communication and PR, Deree – The American College of Greece.
Thanks to the community’s generosity, we raised 821 euros. With additional support from AB Vassilopoulos, the total value of food vouchers reached 950 euros. On top of that, community members (students, faculty, and staff) donated non-perishable goods, including beans, sauces, pads, deodorants, and more.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the Communication Society for setting up a donation booth, the Deree Student Association (DSA) for providing a space to store in-kind donations and logistical support, and to all student organizations that helped spread the word!
“We are immensely proud to support student-led initiatives like the Food Drive! It’s encouraging to see our community service values becoming even more deeply embedded in the younger generations’ hearts and minds,” says Rania Assariotaki, Director, ACG Office of Sustainability – Public Affairs.
