Passing of Chancellor Emeritus, John S. Bailey

On New Year’s Eve, I am writing to inform you of the sad news of the passing of ACG Chancellor Emeritus, John S. Bailey.

In 1975, Dr. Bailey joined ACG as the College’s ninth president. Following his 33-year presidential tenure, he served as ACG’s first Chancellor from 2008 to 2012, when he was named Chancellor Emeritus by the Board of Trustees.

At the ceremony in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Bailey in June 2008, Trustee Jon Westling paid tribute to his unique role in the institution’s history by describing Dr. Bailey as a de facto “founder” of the College. Indeed, Dr. Bailey’s longevity and leadership contributions to the College’s comprehensive development account in many ways for ACG’s present strength and stature.

At the request of the family, the funeral service for Dr. Bailey will be held on Saturday, January 5th, at 11:00, at the College Chapel of the Three Hierarchs. A reception will follow in the Student Lounge.

As a symbol of respect and appreciation, College flags will be flown at half-mast until January 31, 2019.
