ACG Volunteers Reforest Mt. Hymettus!

On Sunday, March 17, we got together for a great cause!

Over eighty ACG community members – Deree and Pierce students, staff, faculty, alumni, and parents – gathered for the reforestation efforts of part of Mount Hymettus at Ilioupoli.

Together we planted 200 trees in under 2 hours!

Children as young as 4 year’s old engaged in one of the most rewarding, hands on volunteer experiences – helping regenerate, and breathe new life to one of Athens’s most important natural areas.

“I care very much about the environment. So, this activity gave me the opportunity to combine that with my love from planting. I am very happy to be part of a school that not only cares for our education, but also for teaching us to be concerned and responsible people!”, says Pierce student, Dimitris Mostratos.

The Center of Excellence for Sustainability (CES) and the ACG Marketing & Communication Department, in collaboration with S.P.A.Y. (Σύνδεσμος Προστασίας Ανάπτυξης Υμηττού) organized this volunteer initiative to help regenerate one of the areas that were burned in the 2015 fires, in the context of the ACG Spring Community Service Day 2019.

ACG volunteers, such as Deree Alumnus, Odysseas Chrysikopoulos, were moved by their participation in this initiative. ‘’A great experience that touches the soul and the spirit.. simple and yet, so important!’’, Odysseas says.

Because ACG Cares!
