The American College of Greece (ACG) is excited to announce its recognition as a top performer in five (5) categories of the 2024 Sustainable Campus Index (SCI) for its sustainability efforts.
A publication from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the Sustainable Campus Index highlights top-performing sustainable colleges and universities overall and in 17 impact areas, as measured through their Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) reports.
For the ninth consecutive year, the Sustainable Campus Index showcases ACG’s commitment to advancing sustainability through innovative and impactful initiatives. This year, ACG was a top performer in the following categories: Campus Engagement, Energy, Grounds, Purchasing, and Wellbeing & Work, being one of the only six institutions outside the US, Canada, and Australia to be featured. Moreover, ACG achieved top performer status in the Master’s institution’s category for yet another year, being the only non-US institution to rank that high. Most notably, ACG was highlighted as the top international performer, achieving the highest STARS rating outside the US and Canada.
This year, ACG achieved remarkable results in the SCI, thanks to the 2023 STARS report submitted by the Office of Sustainability – Public Affairs. Our latest report has earned the prestigious STARS Gold Rating for the second consecutive year, scoring 81.87—an impressive increase from our 2020 score of 69.66!
“We are honored to be recognized as a top performer in the AASHE Sustainable Campus Index for another consecutive year. This reflects our ongoing commitment to integrating sustainability into all aspects of campus life—from academics to operations. At ACG, sustainability is not just an initiative; it’s a core value that drives our vision for the future, as we reduce our environmental footprint and engage our community. This acknowledgment fuels our passion to continue leading by example and aim even higher”, shared Rania Assariotaki, ACG Director, Office of Sustainability.
At ACG’s lush 64-acre campus, our commitment to protecting biodiversity is a given! Driven by our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint, we have taken significant steps towards reducing our energy consumption. By choosing eco-friendly, socially responsible products, services, and providers, we aim to make a positive impact both on and off campus. Engaging students, faculty, and staff in our sustainability efforts while prioritizing their well-being remains a top priority, as reflected in this year’s SCI.
“All of us at AASHE extend our warmest congratulations to The American College of Greece for their achievement,” applauded AASHE’s Executive Director, Meghan Fay Zahniser. “By fostering sustainable practices and initiatives, you set an inspiring example for your peers and future generations. Your efforts are a testament to the positive impact that institutions can make when they prioritize sustainability and take meaningful action. Keep up the outstanding work in creating a brighter, more sustainable future for all!”
