The American College of Greece (ACG) is proud to announce its recognition as a top performer in the 2025 Sustainable Campus Index (SCI), marking a decade of acknowledgement for its growing sustainability efforts.
Published by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the Sustainable Campus Index highlights top-performing sustainable colleges and universities overall and across 13 sustainability topics, such as Buildings & Grounds, Campus Engagement, Curriculum, and more, as measured through their Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) reports.
“On behalf of all of us at AASHE, I congratulate The American College of Greece for its recognition as a Top Performer in the 2025 Sustainable Campus Index,” applauded AASHE’s Executive Director, Meghan Fay Zahniser. “This achievement underscores not only your institution’s dedication to advancing sustainability, but also the resilience of higher education at a time of significant global and societal challenges. Your progress serves as an inspiration to students, staff, and faculty everywhere who are working to integrate sustainability into their daily lives and professional practices. Together, the collective achievements of all STARS participants illustrate the power of higher education to drive solutions at scale and to model the leadership needed for a more sustainable future.”
A notable update in this year’s SCI is that institutions are categorized based on the version of the STARS report they most recently submitted. ACG was measured under STARS version 2.2, reflecting the College’s 2023 report.
For the tenth consecutive year, ACG’s dedication to sustainability is recognized internationally. In 2025, the College earned top performer status in two categories:
- Campus Engagement: 4th place with a score of 97.69%.
- Wellbeing & Work: 2nd place with a score of 99.1%.
Additionally, ACG ranked 3rd overall in the Master’s Institutions category, based on its impressive STARS Gold Rating with a score of 81.87. This places ACG among only 11 institutions outside the US and Canada, and as one of only five European institutions achieving a Gold Rating. The College remains the only Greek institution reporting, underscoring its leadership in sustainability on both a national and international scale.
This recognition reflects ACG’s collective commitment to sustainability, supported by the ongoing coordination of the Office of Sustainability – Public Affairs, which leads and advances initiatives and reporting efforts that align with global standards and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“Being recognized in the Sustainable Campus Index for the tenth consecutive year is a remarkable milestone for ACG,” shared Rania Assariotaki, Director, Office of Sustainability – Public Affairs. “This recognition underscores our continued commitment to embedding sustainability into every aspect of campus life, from learning and operations to community engagement and well-being. As the only Greek institution featured and among a select few in Europe with a STARS Gold Rating, we are proud to continue setting a high standard and inspiring positive change.”
