“I would have to say that studying abroad in Greece was the best decision I have made so far in my college career. My only regret is that I didn’t go earlier; if I had I would have spent more than one semester abroad. Cheesy as it may sound, as an art history minor it was a dream come true to be surrounded by ancient architecture and to live in a country with some of the best museums around. My three and a half months in Greece seemed to fly by. I met some wonderful friends and was even able to travel to two other countries. I have a new found love for Greek cuisine and of course baklava, but they don’t make it quite the same in the States. So, I guess I’ll just have to make my way back to Greece, hopefully soon.”

Key Steps to Study Abroad
1. Complete your Application
We’ve made applying to The American College of Greece easy. Simply complete our online application and submit the following:
- A copy of the photo page of your valid passport
- An official transcript demonstrating a minimum cumulative GPA of75
- Nomination from your home university (if you are applying through an ACG partner institution)
Students attending ACG through a partner university are typically first nominated by their home institution’s Study Abroad Office. Once nominated, students will receive an email from ACG with instructions to begin their study abroad application. Independent students may apply directly to ACG and do not need a nomination.
Be sure to work with the Study Abroad Office at your home institution throughout the application process, as they may have additional requirements or steps to complete.
2. Prepare for the Visa Process, if Applicable
Students attending ACG for a fall or spring semester may be required to obtain a student visa before traveling to Greece. After acceptance, you will receive information about the visa process and the documentation needed from ACG.
Students traveling on a U.S. passport for a summer program do not need to apply for a student visa.
Visa requirements vary based on citizenship and program length. Students traveling on a non-U.S. passport should review the ACG Student Visa webpage for additional information and consult the appropriate Greek Consulate regarding requirements for their nationality.
Semester or academic year study abroad students who require a visa should begin preparing early and carefully follow the visa instructions provided by ACG upon acceptance.
3. Complete Your Acceptance Forms
Prior to arrival, you will receive access to the ACGonBoard portal.
Through ACGonBoard, you will complete required pre-arrival forms and submit important information related to:
- Housing
- Medical information
- Student ID
- Travel and arrival information
- Other required enrollment documentation
Be sure to complete all forms by the deadlines communicated by ACG.
4. Select and Register for Courses
Before registration, review the Course Schedules and Course Descriptions & Syllabi, and work closely with your home institution advisor to ensure that your proposed ACG courses are approved for transfer toward your degree.
Study abroad students will receive information about course availability, registration dates, and instructions for registering through the ACG student portal. We recommend identifying several backup courses in case your preferred courses are unavailable or fill before you register.
5. Attend the Pre-Departure Orientation
About a month before your study abroad program begins, ACG will host a virtual Pre-Departure Orientation to help you prepare for your experience in Greece.
During the webinar, ACG will cover important topics such as:
- Travel and arrival
- Housing
- Packing
- Cell phones and communication
- Finances
- Health and safety
- Living and studying in Greece
- What to expect during your first days at ACG
Students will receive the webinar date, meeting link, and additional details by email prior to departure.
6. Plan Your Arrival
Review the designated arrival and residence move-in dates for your program before booking your travel.
ACG offers airport pickup from Athens International Airport (ATH) on designated arrival days. Students who wish to use this service must submit their flight information by the communicated deadline.
7. Arrive, Attend Orientation, and Begin Your ACG Experience!
Upon arrival, you’ll settle into your ACG residence and take part in orientation before classes begin.
Orientation is your introduction to life at ACG and in Athens! You’ll learn about academics, campus resources, health and safety, and the support available to you throughout your program, while also getting to know your new home. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet fellow study abroad, international, and Greek students and start exploring all that ACG and Athens have to offer.
