BA (Hons) in Visual Arts
The Visual Arts program at ACI cultivates a new generation of artists through its conceptually rigorous and experimental approach to contemporary arts research and practice. Students work in a dynamic, inclusive, and collaborative environment, with a low student-faculty ratio, ensuring that they receive personalized feedback to support their growth as creatively-empowered people.
Grounded in embodied, practice-based, and contextual learning, the program develops the whole person. Students utilize observation, research, somatic awareness, and material experimentation as they deepen their artistic skills through studio practice. Our program explicitly educates for a sustainable relationship with artistic materials and methods. It critically explores new technologies and embraces the dialogue between traditional art methods and new forms and concepts. The explicitly interdisciplinary curriculum also exposes students to socially-engaged, performative and collaborative practices, helping them become socially responsive and responsible makers. Students in the Visual Arts Program are empowered to use art as a transformative tool to inspire change, bridge communities, and advocate for the well-being of our interconnected world.

What You Will Study
In the Visual Arts Program, students gain broad exposure to a variety of techniques and theories through foundation to advanced studio classes, art history and art theory classes. During the course of study, students develop skills in painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, performance, computer art and video. The Visual Arts program develops students’ critical awareness and cultivates the investigation of the social, cultural and historical perspectives affecting the creative process. Students enhance their visual literacy and develop the confidence to create a personal art practice within a rapidly changing art environment.
The structure of the major is modeled on those of distinguished universities in the U.S. and the U.K., allowing students to strive not only for academic but also for professional excellence. The faculty is composed of professionals highly trained in their disciplines, with diverse backgrounds, whose expertise can help students develop their skills and apply their learning in society.
The duration of studies is 4 academic years. The maximum period of registration for an Open University validated award is ten years.
The definition of full time study is 60 UK credits / semester. 40 UK credits / semester or less, is considered part time.
