The American College of Greece (ACG) and the Center of Excellence in Sustainability (CoES) co-organized and participated in active roles in two out of the six Climathons of Greece for 2022, Climathon Agia Paraskevi and Climathon Chania.
All Climathons are organized by EIT Climate-KIC and in Greece, they are orchestrated by EIT Climate-KIC Greece Hub, led by ATHENA RC.
Climathon Agia Paraskevi
On November 18-19, 2022, CLIMATHON Agia Paraskevi took place at the ACG premises. The event was co-organized by the CoES and ACG Office of Public Affairs, the Municipality of Agia Paraskevi, and the EIT Climate-KIC Hub Greece, managed by Athena Research Center, under the Auspices of the Μinistry of Environment & Energy, with the participation of the LIFE IP AdaptInGr.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about issues related to the challenge set by the Municipality of Agia Paraskevi, “Improving energy efficiency within the City,” presented by representatives of the Academic and Research sector.
Climathon Chania
Dr. Stella Apostolaki, Executive Director of the CoES, participated in the CLIMATHON Chania, on November 26 – 27, 2022 at the Mikis Theodorakis Theater. CLIMATHON Chania was the first kid and family-friendly Climathon in Europe. It was co-organized by Ecogenia, Youthmakers Hub, EIT Climate-KIC Hub Greece and ATHENA RC, in collaboration with the Municipality of Chania.
Dr. Apostolaki organized and offered two interactive workshops on the Sustainable Development Goals addressed to two different age groups: school children between 9–14 years old and 18+.
The main challenge of the Climathon Chania was to ‘provide sustainable solutions for the city of Chania.’ More, specifically, solutions were sought on the topics of sustainable transportation, eco-tourism and waste management.
