ACG Blood Drive Fall 2021

Blood drive in support of Evaggelismos and Agios Savvas hospitals

In the context of the ACG Community Service Days – Fall 2021, The American College of Greece, in collaboration with AURORA, organized a 3-day blood drive in support of Evaggelismos and Agios Savvas hospitals.

Held at Deree-ACG on November 9-11, 2021, this was the sixth blood drive organized since the beginning of the pandemic and the turnout of community members, partners and friends was massive. As many as 164 donors attended the blood drive and 124 blood units were collected in total.

During the blood drive, Choose Life and it’s medical partner CBMDP-save a life [ΚΕΔΜΟΠ-χάρισε ζωή] informed and gave donors as well as the ACG community the opportunity to become volunteer bone marrow donors. A total of 21 participants registered as bone marrow donors.

Marios Kapotsis, the 2021 Tokyo Olympics silver medalist, attended in support of the blood drive efforts and Niki Pita, Aurora Ambassador and bronze medalist in boxing, was among the blood donors.

To ensure a safe environment for all participants, Covid-19 precautionary measures were taken, as advised by the National Public Health Organization (EODY), including online registration for distancing and avoidance of overcrowding.

The blood drive was co-organized by the Office of Public Affairs and was support by the ACG Health & Wellness Center, the Deree Student Association (DSA) and Deree S.E.R.F. (Student Emergency Response Force). The event was held under the auspices of the ACG Institute of Public Health.
