Celebrating 2022 Internet Security Day

On November 22, 2022, a few days before World Computer Security Day (November 30), the Internet Security Day took place at The American College of Greece Events Hall. For the 8th consecutive year, academic societies from Deree’s Management Information Systems (MIS) and Information Technology (IT) departments, under the guidance of their respective academic department heads, Dr. Manos Varouchas and Ms. Evgenia Vagianou, and societies’ academic advisors, Dr. Vassia Stefanou (MIS), Mr. Nikos Krinos and Dr. Ioannis Vetsikas (IT), successfully organized this event.  The Internet Security Day celebrated the synergies among students who pursue informatics-related studies at Deree and was supported by the School of Business and Economics, the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Deree AFCEA Club.

This year, more than 70 students and faculty attended the event and had the opportunity to engage in discussion with our speakers. Mr. Notis Iliopoulos, Information Security & Compliance Officer at MR HealthTech, talked about the convergence and governance of information and physical security in the corporate environment. Mr. Michail Sarantidis, ACG alumnus (CIS ’12) and currently Senior Digital Forensics at CISCO Talos, discussed incident response trends in 2022. Mr. Ioannis Simos, Security/Detection/Response Manager at Odyssey Cybersecurity, gave a presentation on the evolution of malware since 1971. Mr. Panagiotis Pavlidis, ICT consultant and Board Member of the AFCEA Greek Chapter, talked about security defense. Last but not least, Mr. Theodore Nicoloulias, an AUEB Economics graduate and current ACG student with a minor in Management Information Systems, presented a cyber-attack case study he had worked on within the context of the CS4250 Information Systems Security and Control course.
