Vasileios Symeonidis

Vasileios Symeonidis is an applied mathematician and a member of the Deree faculty since 2010. He studied mathematics at the University of Oxford, as a member of St. John’s College (1995-1999), where he earned a MMath. He also holds a ScM and a PhD from Brown University (1999-2005), both from the Division of Applied Mathematics. He also worked as a post-doctoral associate at Brown University and M.I.T. (2005-2006)

Prior to joining Deree – The American College of Greece, he was an investment analyst for Dolphin Capital Partners and later the head of the Property Development Division of the Church of Greece.

His interests include numerical methods for physical, engineering, and financial applications. His research has been presented in several international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Journal of Computational Physics, Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, Physical Review Letters, Journal of Chemical Physics, Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and Experiments in Fluids.

He has co-founded and directs a company that deals with fully-automated strategies in the Foreign Exchange market, based on quantitative financial models.

He is a full member of the Sigma Xi scientific research society, and has served for four years as the president of the Oxford University Alumni Society of Greece.
