About the event:

ABYSS is a solo dance performance by Sabina Andrea Allen, performed by Xenia Argyri, that situates fear within a submerged environment. Staged around and inside an aquarium, the work examines how fear is embodied through the feminine, where softness becomes suspect and survival becomes a physical negotiation. Drawing on the greek etymology of ἄβυσσος (“bottomless”), the choreography blends contemporary movement with butoh-inflected stillness, informed by the dual imagery of the jellyfish and Medusa. A layered soundscape: water, techno pulses, opera, lament creates an immersive psychological terrain. After a one month self-funded residency in Berlin (June, 2025) Abyss Premiered at MOVING BODIES Festival in Potsdam, (August 2025), ABYSS offers a stark meditation on vulnerability, containment, and transformation.
