Dimitris Kotselis, MA, studied Film and English (BA) at the University of the West of England, Bristol. Upon his graduation, he traveled to Malaysia to shoot fellow U.W.E. alumnus Ari Abraham’s debut S’kali. He completed an MA in Film and Media Production at Sheffield Hallam University. He then attended the Creative Writing Program of the University of Glasgow until the onset of the Greek economic crisis. Subsequently, Dimitris collaborated with The Callas, a filmmaking and art duo. He shot and edited two of their features: Lustlands and The Great Eastern. As a director, he has directed short films, music videos, and documentaries. His short film The Mechanic participated in various international film festivals. Dimitris has researched and directed episodes of the documentary series Ta Stekia – Stories and Places to Hangout : (Car Garages, Comic Book Shops, Film Societies) produced by Laika Productions/ERT. He has also directed selected commercials in collaboration with major agencies and production companies. In 2021, he documented Max Cooper’s audiovisual concert at the Acropolis. Dimitris also collaborated with Greek production companies in the role of fiction development executive. He has translated seminal books on film, including Transcendental Style in Film (Paul Schrader) and Zona (Geoff Dyer), and has written extensively on film and popular culture (Polar magazine). He completed an MA in Lighting Design (Hellenic Open University), focusing on the lighting style of American neo-noir. His current research focuses on transcendental style in American Cinema.
