At The American College of Greece (ACG), sustainability isn’t just an idea—it’s a core principle embraced by our community. Our Sustainability Face of the Month series highlights ACG members who embody sustainable living and inspire change through their actions and involvement in ACG-led activities on and off campus.
Meet March’s Sustainability Face: Dr. Stella Apostolaki
Dr. Stella Apostolaki is the Executive Director of the Center of Excellence in Sustainability and Assistant Professor of Environmental Science in the Department of Natural Sciences, School of Science and Technology at The American College of Greece (ACG).
She was first introduced to sustainable development during her undergraduate studies in Scotland, where she was inspired by its multidisciplinary nature. This early experience shaped her academic and professional path, leading her to pursue both an MSc and PhD focusing on sustainable urban water management systems. Since then, sustainability has guided both her professional work and personal values.
Dr. Apostolaki has worked extensively on EU-funded environmental and sustainability research projects, focusing on environmental best practices, climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity, natural resource conservation, equity, and inclusivity.
Since 2021, she has served as Executive Director of the Center of Excellence in Sustainability, advancing sustainability research and initiatives at ACG. Among these efforts is the Erasmus+ project SDG4U, which promotes the integration of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in universities.
Reflecting on her work, Dr. Apostolaki notes that a central pillar of her efforts is bridging research and education with societal needs, guided by the core principle of sustainability: “Leave no one behind.”
Through her leadership, research, and dedication to education, Dr. Apostolaki continues to strengthen sustainability at ACG and contribute to advancing sustainable development in academia and beyond.
Every month, we proudly feature members of the ACG Community, students, faculty, and staff, who lead sustainable lives on campus and beyond and inspire our community.
Because ACG Cares!
