Dr. Mavrommatis obtained his PhD in Sociology from the University of Essex. He has also been awarded the status of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), a recognition of commitment to professionalism in teaching and learning in Higher Education. His academic and research interests include narrative medicine, health policy, refugee care, media and social representations, and mental illness. He has held a number of academic positions in the UK, including Lecturer in Sociology, University of Suffolk (2012-2021) and Teaching Fellow, University of Essex (2010, 2012-2016). He has designed and delivered a wide variety of degrees and courses in the areas of Medical Sociology, Health Care Policy and Practice, Mental Illness and Psychiatry, Criminology, Human Communication and Interaction, Media studies, Social Anthropology, and Politics. He has been a member of the Sociology Department since 2022 and assumed the role of Honors Thesis Coordinator in the International Honors Program in 2024.
