Dr. Christos Asomatos is an art historian and researcher. He received his MA, MLitt, and PhD in History of Art from the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom. He joined Deree in 2022, where he is teaching in the Art History programme. He has specialized in modern and contemporary art as well as the relationship between the political and the aesthetic in the modern and contemporary era. His doctoral research explored the politicization of fine art practice since the 1990s in Western Europe and the United States. Further academic interests of his include avant-garde theory, art and psychoanalysis, continental philosophy and political theory. He is also a founding member and editor for the independent literary publishing house Hyperidean Press.
