Chryssa Zachou

Chryssa Zachou holds a Ph.D. from the University of Essex, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology from Deree and Panteion University. Before assuming her current role as Chair of the Department of Social Sciences, she served as Head of the Sociology Department (2017-2024). With extensive academic experience, she has taught graduate and undergraduate courses for several years at the University of Athens, the University of Piraeus, and the Hellenic Open University. Her research focuses on migration, gender, religion, collective memory, oral history, and qualitative research methods and has led research projects as a scientific coordinator and senior researcher at the Center for the Study of Gender Equality (KETHI) and the National Center for Social Research (EKKE). She is also a founding member of the Hellenic Sociological Society, where she has served multiple terms on the Executive Board, and the Editor-in-Chief of the Greek Sociological Review.
