Spyros Gangas

Spyros Gangas holds a BA in Sociology from Deree and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Edinburgh. Spyros joined the Deree Sociology Department in 1999 and served as Head of the Department for two consecutive terms until 2017. He has taught sociology at the University of Wales (College of Cardiff), at Panteion University (Athens) and film studies at Kobe College in Japan. His research focuses on classical and contemporary sociological theory, capability approach, value-theory, and film studies. At ACG he developed and taught courses in film studies and cinema and society in the early 2000s and contributed to the design and launching of the BA (Hons) Cinema Studies. Beyond scholarly outputs and regarding cinema he writes film commentaries for the Greek website cinephilia.gr and he has contributed film commentary entries for the journal To Dendro. He is a gratis member on MUBI.
