US Elections 2020: What is at Stake for the US and the World

On the occasion of the upcoming US Elections, the Institute of Global Affairs, The American College of Greece (IGA)  and the Institute of International Relations, Panteion University (IRR)  organized an interactive dialogue titled  “US Elections: What is at Stake for the US and the World” between the Heads of IGA & IIR, Director Dr. Haris Vlavianos & Chairman Dr. Harry Papasotiriou, respectively. The event was held in hybrid format on October 15, 2020 at the ACG Events Hall, with the support of the Deree International Relations and European Affairs Society & the Deree Student Association.

The Eastern Mediterranean at crossroads

In the wake of the recent escalation of tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean region, the Institute of Global Affairs, The American College of Greece organized a masterclass, titled The Eastern Mediterranean at Crossroads, offered by Dr. Constantinos Filis, Executive Director of the Institute of International Relations, Panteion University. Held October 8, 2020, the masterclass was offered exclusively to ACG Students, faculty and staff.

MindFlow2020 #DigitalEdition

Aiming at soft skills development, MindFlow2020 #DigitalEdition, a two-week digital event organized by ThinkBiz, 21/9/2020-5/10/2020, offered a unique interactive experience with lectures, specialized workshops, interactive quizzes, multiple real-time happenings and activities. In this context, three (3) of its events were livestreamed directly from Deree – The American College of Greece.

Alexandra Kaoni, Manager Graduate Admissions and Professional Education gave the Welcome Remarks, Deree Professor Konstantinos Tasoulis, Management and International Business gave a lecture on Project Management and Marina Perantonaki, Senior Manager, Office of Career Services had a live session on Soft Skills.

Blood Drive July 8-10, 2020

On July 8-10, 2020, The American College of Greece and the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce joined forces to organize a three-day blood drive, in collaboration with the National Public Health Organization (EODY), as part of the ““All Together We Can” (¨Όλοι Μαζί Μπορούμε¨) initiative. Although at the heart of the pandemic, ninety (90) volunteers safely attended under strict precautionary measures, resulting in seventy (70) blood units collected in total, to support three hospitals—G. Gennimatas, Agios Savvas, and Evaggelismos. Such initiatives in challenging times, prove that miracles can be achieved when we work together!

It was with great pleasure that The American College of Greece, in collaboration with EODY,  hosted a three-day Blood Drive on April 22-24, 2020 amidst the pandemic, in the context of the ACG Community Days – Spring 2020 initiative.

Following a special permission by The Ministry of Education, a hundred and twenty five (125) blood units were collected to support Paidon-Aglaia Kyriakou, Evangelismos and Agios Savvas hospitals, after the massive turnout of the ACG community. Thank you all for caring!

With a campaign titled #Dontacceptit, the aim was to raise public awareness on violence against women.

Related to social, legal, economical and emotional aspects, this was a chance for an open discussion with the aim to give possible solutions.

WINDMission Greece

The Voice of Renewables and Parity Platform organised WINDMission Greece 2019 conference, held in Athens on 14/15 October at Deree – The American College of Greece, under the auspices of Hellenic Wind Energy Association ELETAEN / HWEA.

Greece enjoys a remarkable wind resource with local average wind speeds (at hub height) often exceeding the 8–10 m/s, especially in the Aegean Sea islands and on mountain ridges on the mainland. More than 3 GW of wind capacity has already been installed and is operating in Greece, while 4 billion € of additional investments are expected by 2030 for new projects, given national and EU RES penetration targets.
As the country is pushing hard to speed up development of its wind energy capacity, WINDMission Greece gathered together Greek wind energy stakeholders and provided excellent networking opportunities across the entire spectrum, from legislation makers through investors and EPCs.

Road to Success: From Idea to Product” by Junior Achievement Alumni Greece, Day One

Organized by: JA Alumni Greece (national branch of JA Alumni Europe – the European network of Junior Achievement’s entrepreneurial program alumni)

The event titled Road to Success: From Idea to Product covered all major concerns of new ventures from the conception of an idea, to the launch of a product and the company’s growth. Day one, which took place at Alba, was a closed-to-JA-Alumni day, which means that participants were active members of the JA Alumni Greece network, plus members of the JA Alumni Europe network. Speeches included a success story by Dimitris Lykouris (Deree Graduate) and his team who talked about their startup “Stoferno.gr” and a workshop by Anastasios Schoinas by Career Plus Leadership Development.

The 39th National Selection Conference of EYP Greece was held in Athens, between the 19th and the 22nd of April 2019, with the Officials’ Training taking place on the 18th & 19th of April at Deree – The American College of Greece.

Under the theme “Youth employment in Europe: Ensuring effective infrastructure to provide young people with equal and ample opportunities”, 120 delegates from Attica and other Western & Central regions of Greece as well as an international team of Officials gathered for a 4-day NSC in the capital city of Greece.

International Law School Mediation Tournament (INADR)

On March 15-17, 2019 The American College of Greece had the pleasure of hosting “International Law School Mediation Tournament”, organized by International Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR). More than 250 law students from Europe, Asia, Canada & USA arrived on campus to compete in an international competition designed to help them understand the value of resolving disputes through mediation. Fifty four (54) teams from thirty (30) different countries got mediator training, had the opportunity to network with other students from around the world and the unique opportunity to introduce themselves in the world of mediation, which is critical to a successful professional practice after graduation.
