This event features a discussion between expert ACG faculty and students on the ongoing crisis and conflict in the Middle East. Drawing on perspectives on the fall of Imperial Iran, global oil shifts, and the United States’ response to “rogue states,” the conversation addresses key forces shaping current developments.
Emphasizing dialogue, the event creates space for exchange between speakers and students, encouraging questions, diverse viewpoints, and critical engagement with the issues.
About the speakers:
Dr. Andrew Scott Cooper is Assistant Professor of History and International Relations and European Affairs at Deree – The American College of Greece. He is the author of two books on the subject: The Oil Kings: How the US, Iran and Saudi Arabia Changed the Balance of Power in the Middle East and The Fall of Heaven: The Pahlavis and the Finals Days of Imperial Iran.
Nikolaos Lampas is Associate Professor of International Relations and European Affairs at the American College of Greece. His research examines how the United States constructs and responds to “rogue states,” particularly Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. He has published on the topic in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of International Studies, Georgetown Journal of International Affairs, and Infinity Journal.
