What You Will Study
The Minor Certificate in Economics provides a solid background in the application of economic theory to markets. It is intended for students who have a strong interest in rigorous economics and want to acquire problem-solving skills and develop a logical way of analyzing various social problems. The minor is especially valuable for students in business administration preparing for an MBA, or in engineering, as well as students considering graduate work in law and public policy. It is also attractive to students who wish to broaden their education and to better understand the forces that shape the modern world.
Students first complete three standard courses in micro- and macroeconomics that emphasize core training in economic decision-making. Subsequently, they may choose from a variety of elective courses that cover areas of applied economics, such as financial economics and banking, investment, real estate, development and sustainability, public finance and defense, labor, maritime, economic history and international trade.
