IGA & ELIAMEP organize a topical webinar on the Eastern Mediterranean regional security and stability

 

 

On July 1, 2020, the ACG Institute of Global Affairs (IGA) and the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) jointly organized a webinar on the post-pandemic security landscape of the Eastern Mediterranean, which attracted over 700 live viewers.

This online discussion followed the postponement of the 1st Global Politics Summer Academy, due to Covid-19, which would have taken place in Athens in summer 2020.

The discussants – Fulvio Attinà, Professor, University of Catania, Christian Berger, Head, EU Delegation to Turkey, Daniela Huber, Head of the Mediterranean and Middle East Programme; Instituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), Rome, and Günter Seufert, Head, Center for Applied Turkey Studies (CATS), Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) Berlin – elaborated on the strategies adopted by state actors and international organizations for managing the various security challenges and examined what it would take to achieve cooperation and stability in the region.

The discussion was moderated by Nektaria Stamouli, Correspondent in Greece, Politico / Foreign Affairs Reporter, AΜNA, while the opening remarks were offered by Panayotis Tsakonas, Professor, University of Athens; Head, Security Programme, ELIAMEP, and Haris Vlavianos, Professor of History; Director, Institute of Global Affairs, The American College of Greece.
