Antonios Karampelas

Learning Design and Technology

Dr. Antonios Karampelas holds a B.Sc. in Physics, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Astrophysics, from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has been a post-graduate researcher at the University of Athens and the National Observatory of Athens, mainly contributing to the preparation of the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission as a member of Gaia’s Data Processing and Analysis Consortium. Scholarly, Dr. Karampelas has published more than 80 articles, including 30 journal articles and 5 book chapters, that have received more than 17,000 citations, and has reviewed several academic manuscripts. Indicative areas of focus of his research work are Generative AI in Education, Machine Learning, and Data Mining. Dr. Karampelas has teaching and instructional experience spanning high school to graduate level at the American Community Schools (ACS) Athens, The American College of Greece, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Thessaly and the School of Pedagogical and Technological Education (ASPETE). At ACS Athens he has designed, developed, and delivered blended-learning and online courses such as Artificial Intelligence and STEAM, while his service has focused on the coordination of AI curriculum work, Action Research, Accreditation, and the Technology division. Dr. Karampelas is a strong proponent of the inclusion of Generative AI and Learning Analytics in Education and the development of AI curricula. He is also involved in the enrichment of the K12 Greek curricula with online learning experiences that integrate Artificial Intelligence tools.
