At The American College of Greece (ACG), sustainability isn’t just an idea—it’s a core principle embraced by our community. Our Sustainability Face of the Month series highlights ACG members who embody sustainable living and inspire change through their actions and involvement in ACG-led activities on and off campus.
Meet November’s Sustainability Face: Dr. Christina Marouli
Dr. Christina Marouli is a Professor in the Environmental Studies Program at Deree and the person who first introduced ACG to sustainability. An ACG alumna herself, Dr. Marouli dreamed of bringing sustainability to her alma mater.
Alongside her voluntary contribution to designing the Deree Environmental Studies Program, she founded the ACG Center of Excellence for Sustainability (CES) in 2011, which she directed until 2017. During this time, she promoted a sustainability culture and environmentally friendly practices through activities such as green roofs and the Sustainability Week.
As an educator, Dr. Marouli seeks not only to inform but also to inspire and empower students to recognize our inalienable connection with nature and to act in and for harmony between human societies and our habitat with care and respect toward all living beings.
“I try not only to inform but also to inspire and empower young people to recognize our inalienable connection with nature, and to act in and for harmony between human societies and our habitat with care and respect toward all living beings”, shares Dr. Marouli.
Beyond her work at ACG, Dr. Marouli has supported numerous EU-funded environmental projects in Greece and Cyprus and has applied bioclimatic architecture principles at her family’s country house, exemplifying how sustainability is both personal and collective.
At ACG, we proudly feature members of the ACG Community, students, faculty, and staff, who lead sustainable lives on campus and beyond and inspire our community.
Because ACG Cares!
