
Deree – The American College of Greece proudly celebrates an outstanding international achievement by Deree student-athlete Dimitrios Economo, who captured 1st place and the gold medal at the 2025 WAKO World Kickboxing Championships in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, earning the title of World Champion in his category.
Hosted at the ADNEC Arena in Abu Dhabi from November 21–30, 2025, the WAKO World Championships for Seniors and Masters marked a historic edition of the sport’s premier global event, bringing together approximately 2,000 elite athletes from around 150 nations across all kickboxing disciplines.
Competing in Senior Men’s 84 kg – (01 PF 075 S M-84 KG), Dimitrios advanced through a highly competitive bracket featuring world-class opponents and secured the top spot on the podium.
This victory is especially notable as Dimitrios repeated his success on the world stage, having also been crowned the World Games 2025 Champion in his category, confirming his place among the very best athletes internationally and demonstrating remarkable consistency at the highest level.
“This victory is a significant milestone in my athletic career,” Dimitrios shared after the event. “As a Deree student-athlete, it means a lot to represent our College at such a high level. I’m deeply grateful for the continued support.”
Dimitrios is a recipient of the Deree Major Athletic Distinctions Scholarships, which support exceptional student-athletes competing at the highest level while pursuing their academic goals.
His achievement reflects the excellence, dedication, and global spirit of ACG student-athletes who represent Greece and the College with honor, integrity, and pride on the world stage.
