About the event

In 2025, Greece commemorates the centenary of the illustrious composer Mikis Theodorakis, a pivotal figure in the country’s post-war cultural history, as highlighted by the Culture Ministry’s dedication of the year to him. The Frances Rich School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences of the American College of Greece will host a Homage Concert honoring his legacy.  The concert will showcase a blend of distinguished professional musicians and longtime collaborators of Theodorakis alongside talented young performers from the Deree Music Program. The renowned singer Kostas Triantafyllidis will lead the performance, accompanied by pianist Tatiana Papageorgiou and bouzouki soloists Thanassis Vassilas and Yannis Matsoukas—all three close artistic associates of Theodorakis. The program will feature a selection of Theodorakis’ renowned songs and film scores, demonstrating the global  resonance of his work, with his melodies have been sung in dozens of languages worldwide by artists such as the Beatles, Edith Piaf, Shirley Bassey, Albano, Milva, Livaneli, Arja Saijonma and Joan Baez.  The evening will be a moving celebration of Theodorakis’s universal messages of freedom, peace and solidarity through music.

The concert is open to the public with free admission.
